Equal Pay Day

Equal Pay Day is a national day of action, which aims to highlight the gap in pay between men and women. It is organised by BPW Switzerland.

According to the Swiss Earnings Structure Survey (2012), the current salary gap between men and women is 15.1%. Such a gap in pay is illegal and is in breach of the Gender Equality Act contained in the Federal Constitution.

The date on which Equal Pay Day is held changes from year to year as it reflects the gap in pay. If a man receives his salary from 1 January 2018, a woman must work 15.1% free of charge until she also receives a salary... that is, until 24 February.

BPW Switzerland publish an argumentarium on pay equality (in french, german, italian), available at the BPW office.
