Equal Pay Day

Equal Pay Day is a national day of action, which aims to highlight the gap in pay between men and women. It is organised by BPW Switzerland.

According to the Swiss Earnings Structure Survey (2012), the current salary gap between men and women is 15.1%. Such a gap in pay is illegal and is in breach of the Gender Equality Act contained in the Federal Constitution.

The date on which Equal Pay Day is held changes from year to year as it reflects the gap in pay. This means that if a man receives his salary on 31 December 2016, a woman has to work 15.1% longer to receive the same amount... in this case, until 24th of February.

BPW Switzerland publish an argumentarium on pay equality (in french, german, italian), available at the BPW office.
